QUIN PURYEAR

Quin Puryear is a 10th Planet brown belt under Jon Blank.  He had always been fascinated with submissions, and particularly submissions from guard, since he was a teenager and started watching UFC.  Anderson Silva was making his legendary run at the time, and Quin thought it was so cool that a guy could deal a finishing blow in a fight without throwing a single punch and while in what was traditionally considered to be a compromised position.  At that point he was a freshman in high school and started wrestling.  Although he enjoyed wrestling he quit after high school and eventually got obsessed with rock climbing.  He would usually listen to the Joe Rogan Experience podcast during his long commutes to the climbing gyms in Philly and Rogan made jiu jitsu sound like so much fun that he started thinking he wanted to try it.  Around March of 2016 he decided to just google and see if there was a 10th Planet near him, and as luck would have it 10th Planet Bethlehem was only 20 minutes away.  He booked a three class trial, having no idea he was about to start training at one of the best and most up and coming jiu jitsu schools on the planet.  He loved it from his very first class and knew that’s where he belonged.  Since then his funky and unorthodox style has earned him some attention in the social media world, as videos of some of his unusual techniques have gone viral.  He even is one of the rare talented individuals in the 10th Planet system that created his own submission - a choke from rubberguard that he named the New York Necktie - and he has successfully used it in competition (check out the video below). Quin primarily teaches at both Allentown and Bethlehem locations and is available for private lessons.

“Jiu jitsu is awesome, but getting to do it with people with whom you share a kindred spirit is just pure bliss.”
